FAQs

What is Ecotherapy and is it right for me?

Ecotherapy is the term used to describe any intervention that integrates the healing power of nature into the therapeutic process. Outside in nature is where my psychotherapy sessions take place.  If you love being outdoors and feel the calm, vitality, and peace of mind available through being in nature this type of work could be for you.

What do you do in bad weather?

I like to say there is no such thing as bad weather only inappropriate clothing.  We work to be well prepared for all kinds of weather but we always have the option of online sessions if the weather doesn't cooperate or you need the convenience of online.

What about confidentiality if we're outside in public places?

It is important that you feel comfortable being seen by people also enjoying the outdoors.  We will discuss this further if you are curious and interested in taking your therapy sessions outside.

I’ve never talked to anyone. I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who go to therapy weak?

Not at all. People who ask for help know when they need it and have the courage to reach out. Everyone needs some guidance now and then. In our work together, I’ll help you explore and identify your strengths and how to use them to reduce the impact of the problems you are facing.

What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?

Often we find ourselves complaining or asking advice from someone who really can't do anything about the problem.  I work to help you find ways to loosen the grip of old persistent problems and find new ways to resolve problematic situations with family, friends and colleagues. You will develop new tools, gain different perspectives and feel safe. Furthermore, counseling is completely confidential. You won’t have to worry about others knowing what you talk about in your sessions.

Why shouldn’t I just take medication?

Medication can be effective but alone it cannot solve all issues. Sometimes medication is needed in conjunction with counseling. Our work together is designed to explore and unpack the problems you are experiencing and expand on your strengths that can help you accomplish your personal goals.  I am not able to prescribe medication but I will work with you to find the right doctor who can.

How long will it take?

Everyone comes to therapy with different circumstances that are unique to them. The length of time people engage in therapy varies from just a few sessions to years. The length of time you spend in therapy will depend on your goals, needs, desire for personal development and the factors bringing you to therapy.

I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help?

I am so glad you are dedicated to getting the most out of your sessions. Your active participation and dedication will be crucial to your success.
